Bug hunt.

Okay, Apprentices, the raw manuscript for the 2017 novel, Mission to Mightadore, is now ready for your reading pleasure. You chose not to use the more cartoon-ish cover design with Commodore Black waving a sword, but plumped for the airbrushed steampunk submarine exploring the moon’s oceans, so that’s the design we’re going with. All the typos and mistakes you’ve spotted and submitted to date should be incorporated in the latest edition of the book, but there are undoubtedly a few more errors and bugs to be flushed out and zapped. You can download the book from http://dl.bookfunnel.com/mchuer8h4g If you find any fresh typos, please send them to my attention using […]

You’ve got it covered: pick the novel’s cover art.

Here’s your opportunity to vote on the final cover style for the novel. There are two styles to choose from – cartoon comic-book or airbrush. You can click the two thumbnails below to be taken to a higher resolution picture. The cartoon style is currently a pencil sketch – the final cover would, of course, be inked and coloured in by the illustrator if that’s what you want to vote for. This particular sketch illustrates the start of the novel when Jared Black is discovered in the ruins of the crashed space-ship. The second cover is more the classic airbrushed fantasy/scifi style you’ll see gracing a lot of genre books. […]

Character Conundrum: Time to die, or time to live?

It’s voting time again, apprentices. This time there’s a shocking character conundrum for you … the choice to be made is whether one of the characters in the Mission to Mightadore book is to die, or should an already deceased character be brought back from the dead, instead? Or, if you’re feeling particularly brave, should one of our courageous party of adventurers be killed off AND one of the already dead characters be brought back from the fiery pits of Hades, too? This vote is author’s choice as to which of the characters will die and/or be resurrected. Hey, you need some surprises left in the plot for you, right?

Summer Poll fun: Winter is coming. But are ebooks?

Double poll amusement this time, for twice the fun … Winter is Coming? How many of you have seen Game of Thrones the TV series versus how many of you have also read the accompanying novels? E-books are Coming? How many of you read e-books (either on your phone/tablet or on a dedicated reader)?

Names with character: characters with names.

Update: And your votes are now in … the lead names are Magnus Creag and Cassie Templar. There’s a new vote coming this weekend, along with the next update to the book! Keep your eyes peeled. Stephen Thanks to everyone for your suggestions that have been pouring in for the two main characters’ names – to update the current placeholder names for the male and female lead protagonists: presently Seline Templar for the female part, and Adam Creag for the male character. I have now (just) winnowed your suggestions down to a long-list of twelves names to vote from for both the male and female characters. It was very hard to pair […]

Your Mission for 2017, if you choose to accept it …

Your Mission for 2017, if you choose to accept it …

Here’s the two opening/concept chapters for the 2017 Author’s Apprentice book, Mission to Mightadore (working title only at this stage – it’ll likely be called something else by the time it’s finished). The rest of the book, we’ll complete across the rest of 2017, with you looking closely over my shoulder, back-seat driving and wrestling me for the steering wheel. This is a fantasy novel and the 7th book in my Jackelian series. “What, 7th!” I hear you cry in a worried fashion. Don’t worry, readers. Unlike my chum George RR Martin and his Game of Thrones saga, the Jackelian series isn’t one long continuous linked narrative. You won’t need […]

Forum Faff!

Forum Faff!

Bit of a faff ongoing with the Author’s Apprentice site’s forums at the moment. Look away now if you’re of a non-technical disposition … Most web hosting firms have moved to PHP 7+ now because it’s way more hack-proof and faster than the old PHP 5.6. which was the standard many moons ago. The web host behind the Author’s Apprentice, 1&1, has now upgraded to PHP 7, which is a good thing. Sadly, it transpires that the Vanilla Forum software I had bolted onto WordPress to handle the forum posts here does not work with PHP 7. Which is a bad thing. Vanilla Forums are working on making their software […]
