When you’ve written your first book, one of the big quandaries is should you submit it to one of the big five publishing houses or go the DIY route and indie publish instead?

Here’s a fascinating interview with Jamie McGuire who became a New York Times best-seller with her self-published romance novel, Beautiful Disaster. She was so successful doing her own novel that she was rapidly picked up by the big media company Simon & Schuster, who went on to ‘professionally’ publish her work.

Now, however, she has ditched Simon & Schuster for life as an indie author again.
