Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate: Book The Fourth) by Gail Carriger (book review).

‘Heartless’ is book four in ‘The Parasol Protectorate’ series, so it goes without saying there are bound to be spoilers about the previous books in this review. I suggest you start reading the reviews and books in the correct order to avoid any unwanted surprises. The previous books in the series being in order ‘Soulless’, ‘Changeless’ and ‘Blameless’. The last book in this series being ‘Timeless’, but don’t be fooled, there are hints of a new series involving the Parasol Protectorate but this time abroad! Lady Alexia Maccon just can’t seem to keep out of trouble, even when she is precariously close to giving birth to a baby. She is […]

Timeless (The Parasol Protectorate: Book Five) by Gail Carriger (book review).

‘Timeless’ is the fifth and final book in ‘The Parasol Protectorate’ series. But don’t worry there are two other series of books set in the same world, one of them set slightly prior to the this series called ‘The Finishing School’ series and the other being set many years after both these series called ‘The Custard Protocol’. As I’ve said before, there are likely to be massive spoilers in this review as it is for book five in a series, don’t read any further unless you want previous books to be spoilt for you. Alexia and her werewolf husband, Lord Conall Maccon, have recently been living quite comfortably in Lord Akeldama’s third […]

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate: Book One) by Gail Carriger (book review).

‘Soulless’ is the first book in the ‘Alexia Tarabotti/Parasol Protectorate’ series of books, which currently stands at five books. Gail Carriger is also starting two new but related series in 2013, a young adult series called ‘The Finishing School’ and another adult series called ‘The Parasol Protectorate Abroad’. After having read this first book, I can’t wait to read these two series as well. The lead character in this series, Alexia Tarabotti, lives in a world in which Victorian manners exist alongside vampires and werewolves. Alexia herself is a preternatural, basically this means she is able to neutralise supernatural powers so if you are a vampire and you happen to […]

Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School series book 1) by Gail Carriger (book review).

This is the very exciting first book in a new young adult series by Gail Carriger. Currently, there are a further two books in the series to be published later in 2013 and 2014 called ‘Curtsies & Conspiracies’ and ‘Waistcoats & Weaponry’. Together they will form the new ‘Finishing School’ series to run in the same steampunk setting as her adult series, ‘The Parasol Protectorate’. In ‘Etiquette & Espionage’, we get introduced to 14 year-old Sophronia, a rather precocious young thing who refuses to behave in the proper way as defined by her mother, Mrs Temminnick, and the rest of polite society. Basically, she is a tomboy interested only in […]
